Imagine that you operate a small family ranch with horses, goats, sheep, chickens, and ducks in a small town out towards Temecula. Now imagine that local fires have ravaged the area and caused the power to go off. It can be 114 degrees, your water well pump needs power, your air conditioning needs power, and your home needs power.
This is exactly what happened to residents of the little town of Anza, California, located not far from our Double R Ranch facility. Because of the current fires, the power distribution to the town of Anza had been destroyed and the citizens were told they would not have power for at least two weeks. Without power, there was no way to keep perishable food from going bad and many faced the reality that would lose much of their food supply.
The community hall in the center of town opened its doors as a refuge for Anza residents and offered canned and nonperishable food. But it wasn’t long before the food supply was low and they were told they wouldn’t receive another shipment of food for 5 days. That was when I received a call from Thom, Double R Ranch director, with the idea that we could do something to help our neighbors in need. I agreed and asked Thom and his team to bring their van out to the Village of Hope to load it up with food to bring back to Anza.
Orange County Rescue Mission was able to donate 1200 pounds of food to the residents of Anza! The van was packed full and our men at the DRR were eager to bring it back to our Anza neighbors. I am so grateful for Thom, the DRR staff and the resident’s hearts to care for those in need. And I’m glad that Orange County Rescue Mission was able to spring into action to meet that need.
And the biggest thanks goes to our donors, who faithfully give so that we not only have the resources necessary for the Rescue Mission, but to also be able to bless neighbors in need. Thank you for your support, which brings help and hope to the Least, the Last, and the Lost, even as far away as Anza!
