Each month we like to highlight an employee who exemplifies the mission, philosophy, and values of our organization. This month we are delighted to highlight Dane Meckler as our Employee of the Month.
Dane faithfully serves on our Operations team as our Janitorial and Landscaping Supervisor.  We could not keep our grounds looking so beautiful without the dedication of Dane to our team and campus! His dedication to and love for the residents of the Mission is evident through his words and actions as he builds relationships with many residents that work on his tIt is an honor to serve alongside of you, Dane!
What is your full name?  Dane Anthony Meckler
Family: I have two boys and a girl who are all now grown.  I also have 14 grandchildren!
Where did you grow up?  My earlier years were spent in Cherry Valley, Illinois. In 1963, my Dad was told for health reasons to find a warmer climate, so we headed for California.
Hobbies?  My hobbies include most sports and drag racing, which my brothers and I did for about 20 years.  Now I enjoy playing golf in my free time.
How long have you been at the mission?  I was blessed to be hired May of 2012.  This May will be my 5-year employment anniversary!
How did you hear about the job opportunity at the mission? I have had the pleasure of knowing Jewel Loff for the better part of over 20 years.  She called me one day and asked me if I would be interested in working for the Rescue Mission. My son was also a graduate of this program and it was so successful for him. I prayed and God said GO!
What do you love most about your job? I love to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and what blessings he has given to me and my family. I like to share with the residents that I meet here how Paul described our faith as a long distance race and we need to run with the prize in mind. I always keep in mind the words in Matthew 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all that I commanded you: and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
What is the hardest part of your job?     The most difficult part of my job is to watch students not finish their program because they get caught up in acquiring things they don’t need, but believe are more important than finishing out their time here.
How have you grown since coming to the mission? My relationship with my Lord has grown so deeply by being able to share, and read, and study God’s word every day. Praise God!
Church? My church is Main Place Christian Fellowship.
Favorite verse?  Matthew 6:33: Seek ye first his kingdom and his righteousness: and all these things shall be added to you.
Motivation to keep going:   I have searched all through the Bible for ‘retirement’ but have yet to find it!  Joking aside, Philippians 4:13 reminds me that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  Last but not least, my grandchildren motivate me!
