Each month we like to highlight an employee who exemplifies the mission, philosophy, and values of our organization.
Michelle Young, Manager of the Orange County Rescue Mission’s House of Hope, is October’s employee of the month. Michelle has faithfully served and loved the women and their children that come to stay at the House of Hope for nearly two decades. She perfectly embodies our missional value of inspiring the hope of Jesus in those that we serve.
We’re proud to have Michelle on our team and we congratulate her on being October’s Employee of the Month.

Family: Daughter, Finley, son-in-law, a 16-month old grandson, my mom who volunteers in Accounting and my brother who lives in Virginia
Where did you grow up: Orange County
Hobbies: Just about anything that has to do with fabric or yarn. I sell some of my stuff at a shop called A Little Known Shop in Anaheim.
How long have you been at the mission: At the House of Hope 19 years!
How did you hear about the job opportunity at the mission? A friend from church was the manager and told her about the open position for Night Supervisor. “I was happy where I was currently living and where I was in my career. After visiting the House of Hope with my daughter, God slowly opened my heart and we prayed about it. I specifically asked for peace and sure enough the next morning, we woke up filled with peace. I started that January 2005.
What do you love most about your job? Being able to see the ladies know that they can do it!
What is the hardest part of your job? It’s really hard to witness when a woman has given up on herself and has set her mind on it.
How have you grown since coming to the mission? I have learned to become more assertive and have become better at drawing boundaries. Both of which I am still learning to be better at. I’ve also learned that you have to rely on the Lord every day because there’s no way I can do it without him.
