For many veterans, there is combat, then there is the rest of your life.

Veterans and their family members are often surprised at how difficult the transition period is after coming back from combat deployments and expect that they just need a little time for things to go back to normal. However, many of the vets that we have met who have found themselves on the streets find that normal is elusive and time is relative.
At the Rescue Mission we have formed a team of experienced Veterans who take to the streets in search of homeless veterans in need of life lines. We are finding more and more in need of assistance in navigating the transition from combat to home. With that in mind, I am thrilled to have experienced men of service caring for the least, the last and the lost.
Rob Jewel, our Rescue Mission Veterans Outreach Care Coordinator served in the Air Force for six years – including almost five years abroad. Since taking over the outreach program, Rob covers all of Orange County – from Anaheim to Dana Point – in search of veterans in need. An active group of five to 10 volunteers typically accompanies him on his biweekly outreach trips.
As these outreach visits have yielded services for more than 150 individuals, we have seen more than 17 of those veterans come into our Program at the Rescue Mission. As these numbers continue to increase, it is a timely event that Tustin has granted us rights to a property to be used as a transitional program specifically for veterans in need. The hope for this property is to operate as a Village of Hope for Veterans, a transitional program shaped specifically for the men, women and their families who have served and found themselves navigating the difficult transition back home.
