Homelessness is a multi-layered issue, an affliction often reaching far beyond unemployment and a lack of a roof over one’s head. A majority of the individuals we encounter on the streets struggle with mental health issues and drug addiction. While the Rescue Mission seeks to serve the least, the last and the lost, our program provides a number of wrap around services to bring men and women into a stable situation so that they are employable and self-sustainable.
An enormous part of this healing process includes the physical body as well as both mental and spiritual health. Where we emphasize these aspects of serving the disenfranchised, it seems that more current events are opening up the conversation of mental health and the need to address those that are genuinely struggling and more vulnerable to this issue.
In light of that conversation I am thrilled to announce that the Hurtt Family Health Clinic is currently preparing to open its third suite at its newest Santa Ana location. The new suite is comprised of ten exam rooms and will provide community-based health care services to children and families. Services will include immunizations as well as comprehensive care and services for all family members. Free health care services will continue to be provided to patients who are five years old and younger.
In addition to the main medical suite, a five room suite dedicated to mental health services will also be opening. Licensed Clinical Social Workers will be available to serve the mental and behavioral health needs of families and children of all ages. These mental health assessments and licensed clinicians serve individuals, families, adolescents and all types of trauma victims.
Operational financial support for the new clinic suites is supported by the New Access Point grant, a federally funded program dedicated to improving the health of underserved and vulnerable populations. Hurtt Family Health Clinic will continue to increase its access to community members and provide culturally competent and quality primary health care services to its diverse client base.
I am confident in the comprehensive and holistic services of our program at the Rescue Mission to care for every aspect of an individual’s need and excited for these expansions of the Clinic.
