“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”
As we focus our efforts toward rescuing more people off the streets of Orange County, these words of Nelson Mandela cut right to my heart.
Especially this time of year, when I see school buses beginning to circle through the neighborhoods again with kids making their way back to the classroom. I drop my own kids off for another semester of classes and I can’t help but imagine the kids that don’t have this same opportunity.
And yet as we work together, I see the families at the Orange County Rescue Mission that are now able to walk their kids to the front of the Village of Hope and wave good bye to their children as they load up the bus for another day of school.
In fact, I would be remiss to not mention that even the very backpacks, notebooks, pencils and school uniforms they are dressed in were a gift from you, our donors. What a gift for these families to live in a stable environment where all of their needs are met so that they can rest assured that their children will receive their education to propel them into a new direction of a hopeful future.
