Last weekend, the Tustin Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off hit the streets of Old Town Tustin from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The 30th annual event featured the Chili Cook-Off, craft booths, non-profit food vendors, entertainment, kids area, music and much more.
The Orange County Rescue Mission was honored to be present with our talented Kitchen team consisting of volunteers, staff and some of our student-residents.
Our team showed up with over 30 gallons of our signature chili and fed close to 1500 people.
Samplers boasted that our recipe was a fan favorite as most people came back for seconds and thirds.
In the 30th year of the event, attendance tipped record scales of over 40,000 people.
Our Village of Hope campus is equipped with a fully functional commercial sized kitchen where our residents work with staff and volunteer chefs to prepare meals to feed all residents at the Orange County Rescue Mission 365 days a year. This kitchen is also where we prepare the food for our weekly Chili Van homeless outreaches as well as meals for the Armory and other Winter Emergency shelters during operating seasons.
Our kitchen also offers private catering services for corporate meetings, luncheons, events and private functions both on and off our Rescue Mission campuses.
If you are interested in getting involved with our kitchen and culinary services, we are always in need of financial support for food cost but also to help with kitchen training. Our training program covers all basic food prep, knife skill, general pantry and food handling processes required for Serve Safe and Food Handler Certification requirements to meet state and county food safety regulations for our residents that are interested in entering hospitality and the culinary arts industry for future professions and careers.
As we provide 3,499 meals per day, we are also in need of food donations such as non-perishables, raw proteins in bulk and fresh fruits and vegetables.
Contact our volunteer department for more information to get involved with our efforts to feed the hungry and ministry to the least, last and lost of Orange County.
